Kabaka Foundation’s Tubeere Balamu Health Campaign
Extending Health Services to Communities Across Buganda
The Tubeere Balamu Health Campaign is an initiative of the Kabaka Foundation, designed to promote community health through two-day health camps across all 18 counties of Buganda. Officially launched by the Kabaka on October 30th, 2024 at Bulange Mengo, the campaign was inspired by the overwhelming need identified during a cancer awareness camp held earlier that year on February 2nd.
Recognizing the urgent gaps in prevention, early detection, and treatment within communities, the Kabaka Foundation initiated Tubeere Balamu as an ongoing platform to deliver accessible medical services, facilitate timely referrals, and provide life-saving health education — especially to underserved populations.
Since its launch, the Tubeere Balamu Health Campaign has:
- Mobilized a strong network of dedicated health workers and health facilities, who deliver health education, screenings, treatments, and referrals to thousands of community members.
- Secured a range of essential medicines, including highly specialized drugs, which have been dispensed to patients following professional prescriptions.
- Built partnerships with over 80 institutions, enabling the campaign to extend its impact and reach diverse populations.
So far, three successful health camps have been conducted in the counties of Buddu, Busiro, and Ssingo, each held over two days. These camps have provided a variety of critical health services including cancer screenings, HIV testing, dental care, eye check-ups, physiotherapy, and health education.
The fourth camp is scheduled to take place in Kyaddondo County at Wankulukuku Stadium on May 6th and 7th, 2025, with the remaining counties to follow according to the campaign’s work plan.
Expanding Access Through Health Insurance
To ensure sustainability and long-term impact, the Kabaka Foundation has partnered with Jubilee Health Insurance Uganda to introduce a micro medical insurance service. This initiative will enable families and individuals across Buganda’s counties to access affordable and reliable healthcare services, further strengthening the Tubeere Balamu campaign’s mission of community health empowerment.
Call for Support
While the campaign has made remarkable strides, some key challenges persist:
- An overwhelming patient turnout at certain specialist centers, such as for prostate cancer screening, orthopedic services, physiotherapy, and cervical cancer screening has strained resources.
- Limited financial contributions, as most partners have supported in-kind, restricting flexibility in addressing urgent logistical and medical needs.
- Shortage of specialist doctors in fields such as pulmonology and rheumatology, leaving some patients underserved.
- Shortfall in the supply of essential drugs, especially for neurological, rheumatological, and urological conditions.
In light of these gaps, we are appealing to our partners, stakeholders, and the broader health community for strengthened collaboration and targeted support — particularly in the areas of specialist staffing, medical supplies, and financial contributions.
Your partnership is vital to enabling us to deliver comprehensive and life-saving care to the communities we serve.
